My Letter Box

My Letter Box

A Story by Christine Peters

Within the context of my home: be it a mansion, a house, bungalow, flat or even a bedsit, the only thing I have in unison with everybody else, is my letter box.

From there., I have access to the rest of the world: from the jungles of Borneo, Asia, South America and even from some remote village from God knows where. My letter box is wide open to receive messages worldwide.

Yet it sits there daily lying mostly forlorn. Technology with emails, texts and social networks have mostly procured my letter box redundant. So much so, if my once dormant letter box should suddenly spring into action one early morning, I will rush there so full of excitement as like a child on Christmas morn., yet only to find glossy adverts disheveling my carpeted floor.

If only maybe I was in debt to so many people, then I feel sure I would have lots of daily mail. Yet meantime, my letter box might only stir slightly with a strong prevailing wind.
