I am So Itchin' to Go to Sleep!

I am So Itchin' to Go to Sleep!

A Story by Christine Peters

I go to my bed at night looking forward to some deep decent sleep.

I am lucky as I have three choices: I can sleep on my left or my right or I can even sleep on my back. I do not prefer the latter so first choose maybe my right.

I seek a most comfortable position: mainly the prone with one leg straight and the other bent with my hand under my pillow allowing full support to my head.

I begin to drift..,

Not thinking about problems or all ills that lie beforehand or maybe yet to come.

No! These things are not conducive for my planned slumber ahead.

I wander into mainly insignificant thoughts like wandering through a meadow with golden flowers or crops..,

Then just before I am sunken into that fantasy world..,

My right arm itches and so I have to break away and scratch.

Now resolved, I try to return to that same place.., and get comfortable again.

Now my left knee itches and so have to break force and scratch it forcibly.

I turn over and try to resume a similar comfortable position with the very same thoughts., but then my back itches and I have to adopt many maneuverable positions in order to scratch it that throws my sleeping prowess right out of cinch.

This process goes on many, many times each night and I am beginning to wonder if I am actually allergic to my bed. I can so easily fall asleep on my sofa during the day, but it appears never in my bed.

I am just scratchin' for an answer to it all.
