Today's TechnologyA Story by Christine PetersThis lunchtime, I ventured into an Asda/McDonald. It was not for me but for my eleven year old grandson who was in my care.
I struggled to perch up on a tall stool whilst my grandson joined the long queue of what used to be known as 'fast food'. I sat there aloof and so bored as I waited for him to return with his 'heartburn delights'. I was having none of it myself.
Suddenly, this middle-aged woman and maybe her dad (or whatever), sat next to me. She was on her 'Smart-phone'. None of them went up to order a meal but just sat there with her fiddling with her phone.
'Wot's 'appening?' The woman cried out.., 'I can't get anymore downloads as I have too many 'Apps' already " and more are even still downloading.., I can't do anything right now with my phone!'
I turned to avert my concentration on whatever else was occurring within this so busy 'Fast Food' complex where my grandson was still more than half-way down the long line. I thought., 'What are all these people doing here.., don't they have a cooker back home?'
As I gazed around this so busy place, I could not help but notice just how many people were attending to their phones way before either their meal or even the company that they sat with.
Suddenly.., I was drawn back to that original distraction..,
'I don't know what's going on with this bloody phone.., it just keeps on downloading s**t that I do not want. My memory is getting so full up I just cannot add anymore!'
I thought, 'Please God.., if you ever had a good deed in your mind then please send a bolt down now. Not to me but to her. Best of all it might give her more gigabytes to shut her up!'
After a good while, my grandson turned up and sat next to me. I said to him 'Where's your meal?'
'They're bringing it to me!' He replied.
I thought 'Oh no.., are Amazon now on this deal " will it be delivered via drone?'
As I sat there and watched my grandson munch through his burger n' skinny chips, the woman next to me got even louder and louder.
'S**t this phone.., it will not stop downloading and updating more Apps " I can't do anything more with it!'
By then, I was completely mentally exhausted. I said 'please' to my grandson.., 'please hurry up and eat and let me get out of here!'
Yet.., as we were leaving I heard a gemstone that completely refilled my batteries..,
The woman shouted out 'I am bored with this!'
Her more elderly companion replied..,
'I am bored with you!!!'
Life still often gives me more hope.
