I Am Old

I Am Old

A Poem by Christine Peters

I am old and quite possibly infirm,

But I was once so young and achieved maybe much more than you have.

Those days are so far behind me;

When I could run, skip over a fence,

Party all night long

Or do things most unimaginable today.

Those times seem only just yesterday to me.

Yet now inside, I am still that same young person.,

That same cheeky child that dared it all.

My mind is still the same,

But my body has raced on before me.

When I get old, as you might also fortunately do,

Don't look upon me as an 'old person',

But as someone who has fully lived their life.

You see nothing but an 'old person'.,

But who knows.,

I could be a war hero, a once famous stage or screen performer.

A notorious member of a once infamous gang.

You know nothing about me.,

Except that I am old - but I am really just me.

A moving poem. "Don't look upon me as an 'old person',
But as someone who has fully lived their life"...very rich for pondering. It makes feel the need to live every single moment of my life. Thanks for sharing this poem imbued with life experience.

Just me passing on my thoughts.
