The Morning Hangover

The Morning Hangover

A Poem by Christine Peters

'Put the gun down!'

'No., I don't have a gun!'

'Here's a gun., pick it up and then put it down!'

'No., if I pick the gun up..,

I just want to sleep.,

'Here is a castle, walk around and around and you will find no gate.

Please., just let me sleep.

My mind is so awake.

Yet I just want to sleep.

Don't think about how bad I am

Or what I did last night.,

Create a story " a vision

Any vision.

To separate me from reality.

I just need to wipe out yesterday.

Sleep.

Dream.,

Create anything in my mind

To divert me.

'Okay. I am on a beach.

I am deep in the ocean.,

I am in a glass sub.,

Please., just let me sleep.
