My Little Red Scooter

My Little Red Scooter

A Story by Christine Peters

Someone in my Sheltered Home said to me.,

'I would never own a mobility scooter!'

I politely asked 'Why?'

She replied, 'Because everybody here who gets one " soon dies!'

'Tis maybe a bit true, but mostly those who die long stopped using them.

Myself., I just love my eight mile an hour bright red scooter. I can travel a thirty-five mile radius and have never used my free bus pass since first owning such at least three years ago. I no longer have to carry heavy bags of shopping like I had to do even when a lot younger.

My bright red scooter gives me so much freedom. I can go anywhere and at anytime as I have full lights. I can do my local town from my home in around twenty minutes. Unlike when I used to own a car, I have no parking fees to worry about. Nor petrol, road tax, insurance or even being pulled up by speed cameras and fined like the old days used to be.

I have never ever known so much freedom.

I feel so sure that without my little red scooter, I would have been tired, worn out and probably expired a long, long time ago.
