Life's A Short Journey

Life's A Short Journey

A Poem by Christine Peters

I am so cold,

Helpless and old.

I once was so fresh and anew.,

But now.,

Worse times are soon to be due.

I used to race down blocks of stairs,

My body feeling in full drift.,

Now I struggle so hard.,

Just to get in the lift.

I cycled the dance floor,

Doing Jive, Rock n' Roll and the Twist.,

Now I cannot find any energy.,

To attend my local Whist!

Yet looking back, I had it all

And I would not change one thing to spoil.

It was my time and I had the best,

Enough for me to plunder on and suffer the rest.

Take my advice young kids of today,

Make the most of it - do and believe what you say.

Life moves on a lot faster than you think.,

And soon one day, you will be brought to this very same brink.

Don't ever get old and think back what you could have done that day.

Now is the time to bring on your say.

It's your life, yours to fully hold -

Time for your courage for you to behold.
