O' Toothache!

O' Toothache!

A Poem by Christine Peters
"

O' Toothache

"

O' Toothache!

You are the complete Devil.

You prevent me from sleeping and dreaming,

From working with any task I have to do.

I cannot think about anything else, but you.

I try breathing in cold air,

Even hitting myself in the jaw.

Brushing my teeth a thousand times,

Swallowing pills, but still you will not leave me alone.

I feel I would rather swap for any other pain, but yours.

I purchase costly remedies, even resort to whiskey.,

Drink myself into a safe coma.,

Still, you return the next day to terrorise me.

You force me to seek aid with monies I can ill-afford.

Go to emergency appointments wondering why nobody is putting me first!

Then after, you leave me with the Arnie thought.,

'I'll be back!'

You get the phases of mourning, then you get the phases of toothache frustration!

You summed it up to a 'T' as I have been through every phase you have mentioned. A toothache seems to be one of those things you just can't kill. It is what they call a "breakthrough pain" and is by far the worst pain one can experience, and that's coming from someone with chronic pain issues. The pain is due to the source ... the raw nerves that for some reason shares space with our enameled chewing implements.

I loved this little poem. So descriptive and so close to the truth.

All of the best in finding permanent relief from this vile devilish affliction.

Fun, and so true. Strange isn't it, how toothache seems to strike at entirely the wrong time. Do you think it's because we far too often ignore that first little twinge? T
