Look At MeA Poem by Christine PetersMore prose from my planned writingsI wrote this next piece when I was caring for a lady with MS. I used to take her around in her wheelchair and was amazed by the way I saw people view her.
It made me think about what is 'normal'. If people were born with three legs, then I would be abnormal. I tried to write this for all those handicapped or in any other 'abnormal' situation. I did send it to such an organisation. I hope that they published it within their magazine.
Look At Me
Although my body may be broken and my words may not find the way from my heart to you " look at me for I am part of you and I too have something in which to offer.
Look at me " I can feel your presence. I am part of you as you are part of me. I too look for all the same ways out with my true inner gifts and I feel the very same emotions " right or wrong. I too have to learn in the same way as you. Look at me for I am still with you.
Don't pass on your pity to me, I need strength and there is no strength in pity or I should pity you. The Universe is as well mine as it is yours and I too have my cross to carry. Only I am more fortunate than you for my cross is easily seen and I cannot hide it with lies.
Don't hide your lies in me!
Look not to my body " look at me. Look to my eyes, for it is me. Now you will see me and I am like you. Look now to my gifts and talents, no matter how clumsy they may be. Let me excel in my giving to you. Let me share in that same joy, like you it is my nature and I too have a purpose.
Look at Me " I am the very same as you.
