Bloody Germans

1. Introduction
 

I came to live in Northern Germany in November 1992, simply because my guy Rolf lives here. Rolf lives here because he is German.

Right now as I write, I am residing in Hamburg. A place that is well considered to be a beautiful city that lies on the edge of the River Elbe and boasts one of the largest Free-ports in Europe. A modern yet historic city, that is embellished by narrow canals that widen as they make their way out from the harbour into the city centre; going this way and that, then meander off into the distance, passing through several green and wonderful large parks as they travel through.

A city that not all that long ago was severely firebombed -- yet amazingly so, still adorns an abundance of beautiful long-standing architecture and historic bridges.  Hamburg is also treasured with many interesting museums and there is a multitude of other such spectacular events, from grand elaborate exhibitions right down to simple small wooden structured cultural displays; there is always something or other going on at any one time of the year in Hamburg.

Then, as if to highlight the sheer excellence of it all, right in the centre of the city, there are two large lakes that are coveted by delightful waterside cafes and restaurants, and it all sits majestically inside a vast and modern city shopping centre.

At night -- the city transforms and lights up like a dream in some far off imagined locality. There is theatre, night clubs and eating houses that are all just bustling with life, song, dance and local music.

Everything one could possibly fantasise about that is so marvellous and superb --

So why the hell is this place just driving me insane?
