Echo

Echo

A Poem by Angela Mulley

In the midst
of an empty
room, nought surrounding
there but walls;
I sang out
a cheerful tune
and the sound of an
echo called.

I wondered
then how I could
tell the thing it was
that started,
since present could
no longer show past--
departed.

How prompted that sound
from my lips, how far
apart it's peers!--
by not one,
not two,
but a hundred
thousand years!
