Before the Rain Began

Before the Rain Began

A Poem by Angela Mulley

Night aside
from mid of day,
as dawn is
to the gloaming.
But how come they,
how away,
if they had not
legs for roaming?

Near and far,
far and wide;
time--you see,
is bigger
than the sky.

In days before
the rain began,
someone saw
it coming;
chasing rainbows
as he ran,
from the beat of
big drops drumming.

Someone dreamt
of that light
creeping thither
in the night
would wake the birds,
turn black clouds grey,
where the rain,
hidden lay.
