BELEAGUERED MOTHER GHANAA Poem by chrisdad kojo arthurA poem decrying plights bedeviling my mother Ghana
Beleaguered mother Ghana
Oh mother Ghana! What really is the matter? Plights have depleted my mother's picture quality. Anytime I switched vision, my eyes found it a difficulty. Supposed leaders go to take the cake as businessmen, Abusing portfolios for insatiable interests. Equipped with oily lips to make words slippery, Deceiving minds of citizenry. They direct our eyes to the east, Yet, cause the sun to rise from west. Critics inveigh, But when they possess the cake, and weigh, They follow the norm. Incompetency has become a custom. Oh mother Ghana! Oh great ancestors, Come and look at your successors. Corruption has torn us into pieces of doom. Our hopes have become imperceptible regardless of how better we zoom. Stagflation had bedevilled my country. Our hearts highways are interconnected with agony and sorrow. When hungry stomachs get a scoop of a leftover soup, They, in the aftermath are threatened by tomorrow. Floods have become byproducts of rains. Making death harvest my people like grains. Popes of politics, swearing sacraments, As though we were witnessing papacy. Where are they? Come and look at how hunger had fractured ligaments. Your selfish ambitions leave your shoulders up high at home, Whereas, knees down overseas. Back of right hand hitting the right palm, awaiting cowries. They give us as we act to their whims and caprices. I wonder! Why this irony? A peaceful environment, yet, brains can not focus. My country has become a puzzle. So When will my tears frizzle? Lord have mercy.. Oh mother Ghana What really is the matter? © 2015 chrisdad kojo arthur |
