One Man Awakens

One Man Awakens

A Poem by Chris1189

One Man awakens

sure of the sun each morning

concrete roads sprawl across a thousand miles of earth

and intersect

grand bridges are built

over rivers ten thousand years old

a young woman graduates

a child dies of hunger

a nation starves to death

as Human Gods plot and deal

wars are fought and won

and lost

and a mother weeps at her soldier’s funeral

and a billion stars still shine

forming and fading

in space

with no beginning and no end

This is a well done poem here. I like how it is at first optimistic in timbre, then slowly bringing out a rather dark tone. Though, still ending with the same optimism. I love it.
