A Forgotten Dream

A Forgotten Dream

A Story by Chris Rankine
"

Ever woken up after a bad dream unable to remember a thing about it? Trying hard to remember anything about it, but failing.... me too.

"

A Forgotten Dream

I awoke from a bad dream with a fright sitting almost bolt upright in bed. However, Try as I might I cannot recall what happened in it. I can just remember my chest pounding for awhile afterwards.

I tried to get back to sleep, but my mind was racing ten to the dozen trying to recall anything about it.

I had to give up in the end and just get up.

It creeped into my thoughts several times during the day. I am sure somebody else was in my dream, but of course I do not know. Probably never will.

Dreams really are an odd occurrence.

How do we have them.

What causes them.

Why do we never remember, especially the bad ones. Does our sub conscious somehow hide them to protect us from the fear or pain they may cause.

Occasionally I may remember parts of a dream, but they soon vanish from memory. I assume everybody is the same.

Perhaps one day we can learn to control them, or stop them altogether, until then, sweet dreams dear reader.

I’ve had vivid dreams all my life. There is no escaping them. Even if I forget, it’s always at the back of my head. I use to have my own dream dictionary book. I’d look up the meaning of the dream to discover it’s message. Now you can get online dream dictionaries. I often use DreamMoods. For me it’s been the most accurate one out of them all.

Same here.

I wake up all the time KNOWING I was dreaming but cannot remember even vaguely what it was about.
