Lucky

Lucky

A Poem by chr66is

Tonight

is so cold and clear

that I can feel my nosehairs freeze

in a hurried huff of billowing breath,

pronounced as thick cigar smoke

in the icy, crystal-laden atmosphere.

I pause, eyes fixed on the myriad of stars

that hang like ancient lanterns

from the celestial ceiling.

The wind cuts straight through my jeans

and wraps its frigid, spindly fingers

around my bones, squeezing until

it feels as though I am naked.

I shiver and curse my car’s heater

until I remember that some people

are sleeping in their cars tonight,

and others would kill to be

even that lucky.

Straight forward write, nicely expressed, sad but nicely written.
