kerouac

kerouac

A Poem by chr66is
"

An ode to the man.

"

you were alive,

a vibrant example

of hysterical, light-speed

energy in form.

you poured out

your heart, your soul

and your pain

for everyone to see.

how many people

have studied your life,

your stories

and experiences,

your tragically beautiful,

unabashed sense of

entitlement to the

secrets of the universe?

you rejoiced in

bathing in the ocean

under the stars,

your actions were

prayers in themselves.

you were destined

to descend into

the madness

brought on by

your own appetites.

but you lived

while you were here,

and you take me with you

every time i crack

the pages of your life.

You know, I have a hard time liking Kerouac, no matter how hard I try (and no matter how much I adore Kesey), but this poem is spectacular, and I think it is a fitting tribute.
