Petty PoemA Poem by NoemiHigh school sweethearts sometimes work out. It didn't for me :POnce there was a freshman girl and met a boy she did Offered her his jacket, his kindness he hadn’t hid. As time went on he flirted with her, naive as she may be And opened her eyes to how her heart must always be free. Because later as the years went on, departure they must face As life brought them to a much better place. She thought of him, his daunted face, Because of junior year’s s****y grace. Senior year came around And she picked herself off the ground. What he did himself, she’ll never know But knew that he would grow. She got a scholarship and went to school And he did too, he wasn’t a fool. They met at work, on a date they did go When she asked if they were a thing, he said no. He said as friends they could go to a game, But hours passed he never came. He told her she was his number two To his life she was nothing, she felt quite blue. She met another, she said yes The relationship that followed seemed to be blessed. She dated another, he took her out He told her that her worth was no doubt. October rolled around, she was single Her past crush started to mingle. But though they tried, nothing grew But of course, to the girl, this was nothing new. She asked him later, to be his friend Because she said she loved him, till the end. Now he tells her he likes her. But to her, his words are a blur. Because no feelings will ever stir. Had his actions been as kind as when they first began Maybe, in the end, she never would’ve ran. © 2018 NoemiAuthor's Note
