Growing Up: A MonologueA Story by ThaliaA monologue that anyone can use for auditions. It is about growing up.GROWING UP When you’re six, life is simple. You wake up, you eat, you take a nap, and occasionally go to school. When you’re twelve, things get harder. You wake up earlier, you sometimes eat breakfast, then head off to school for a long, seven to eight hour day. When you’re fifteen, life seems to have made the wrong turn. School is impossibly early, homework piles up over two feet high, and your looks and attitude decide who you are and what kind of person you’re like. Being eighteen and going off to college only gets tougher. You might move away from home for four years, only seeing your family a few times a year for short periods of time. You have school at almost every hour, and when you’re not doing that, you are either working, studying, or sleeping. Graduating seems to be a relief, but then there’s work. You can’t live at home forever. You have to find a job. Then you get married, buy a house, have kids, and get older. Then, when your time comes, you go. You close your eyes, and instead of seeing the darkness, you see the light. (pause) Growing up is hard. You make mistakes, you make friends, you get angry, and you get happy. And that’s the journey of life for you. Not just the good things, and not just the bad things, but both. It’s the lessons you learn along the way. And, well, if you learn the right lessons, then you know you’ve done good. So be proud. Life isn’t easy to conquer. © 2016 ThaliaAuthor's Note
