You Want to Want...A Poem by Sleeplesson addiction.Standing on the edge of the precipice It's shrouded in mist Cloaked by absense of light You never knew it was there So how could you fight?
You take a tentative step, ever so slight Only one, because despite the disguise You can sense it. The danger. The lies.
Too late, one step is too many And your toe hits the ledge A stumble, a slip and you're over the edge Fallen into a numbing trance Plummeting ahead without a backwards glance.
You tell yourself you're sorry But really you're not Now that you've fallen You forget what you've lost
Oh you want to go back, so you say But do you? Oh, really?
No, you want to WANT to go back. You long to wish for the past You try so hard to desire to stop To crawl your way slowly back up to the top.
But you want none of those things All you want is IT So this this what they mean When they say addiction never quits?
You never truly believed in such thirst Mind over matter would protect you from hurt Willpower could overcome the worst
But you weren't prepared What good is willpower When all your WILL has disappeared And all your desire to return has vanished into thin air?
You want to WANT to stop. You wish that you wished you'd never dropped.
But you don't.
