A Poem by Chloe Sidwell
"

a poem about speaking up- "She would not make her quiet a short coming but a chance to make her words mean something."

"

Sitting, waiting, knowing

the answer with such confidence

that for once she takes the plunge.

Her elbow is stretching

tight fingers unclenching

reciting the syllables in her mind

until they pump through her very soul.

Eye contact is made

her breath will not fade

those lips that were once delicate

are now ready to build empires in a command.

This is her first moment with a chance

because she never thought to take a stance

against those with the voices

who throw around language

Because they never give a thought

to those who have fought

for a chance to voice their opinions.

words piled high inside her mind

She would not make her quiet a short coming

but a chance to make her words mean something.

her voice had become a compensation

for her thoughts being so loud.

It was a price she had payed

but that is not how it would stay

her arm was raised, fingers splayed

she was ready to give an answer.
