city of lights

city of lights

A Poem by chitra dhara

Lord of the city of lights and sky scrapers...
 where the sun seldom sets

Amasser of knowledge and innumerable embellishments...
 blinding with the glitter

If you look down from your lofty heights...
 Oh merchant of hope

You'll find some pieces of glass glittering at your feet ...
 my shattered dreams

Tread softly lest you crush them beneath your feet...
 the pain is still raw

What good is thy prowess if it can't bring happiness...
 to a wounded soul

May be you never cared or I didn't matter..
 just another face among thousands

May be just a firefly in your city of blinding neon...
a mere sigh amid deafening applause

Help...help...help...can you hear my cries...
I am sending you my thoughts

Hope they will reach you through the ether..
my faith fathomless.. my hope undying!

I get a sense of loneliness and despair that being in a big city can cause. It can be so intimidating, so big, so busy and we end up feeling lost in it all.
You have written about that so well.
I also like how you express the human condition so well, how in spite of everything weighing down there is always that hope "my faith fathomless.. my hope undying!"

That was lovely. I love this verse in particular "May be just a firefly in your city of blinding neon...
a mere sigh amid deafening applause".
