SnowfallA Story by Haley BarnettThis is one of the short scenes/imageries I wrote for an ex-girlfriend. We were long distance and I would write scenes of what I imagined our life together would be like.
Lights twinkled in the window reflection as the sun started to rise. Snow fell quietly and softly from the sky, covering the trees outside our living room windows. I watched the limbs become outweighed by the crisp white snow, falling and piling at the base of the tree. Leaving the evergreen colors of the pine trees uncovered by the blankets of snow for only a moment before the process starts again.
The uncovered pines made me think of you. Your voice as you whispered to me between our white silk sheets, goosebumps rising up on your skin as my hands slipped under your shirt and your clothes falling to the floor like snow piling at the base of the pine tree. Naked. That is what we were… and are. We shed our fears and took down our walls, like stripping our clothes in front of a mirror. Naked in each other’s eyes we saw one another for what we are. Our fears and insecurities danced around us as our bodies entangled themselves in each other. Your fears and my insecurities found comfort in mutual understanding; creating a place of honesty and openness that could only be reached by absolute trust. I smiled holding my coffee in my hands as I watched the snow continue to fall. You are the reason it never worked out with anyone else. You are what I had been searching for my entire life. The perfect snowflake in the snow storm that was my life. You came in and you calmed me. My fingers reached up and brushed against my lips as I remembered you kissing me. Your eyes were shut and your voice was quiet as you started to drift off to sleep. Try as you might you couldn’t resist the urge to dream anymore. I smiled thinking about your small features asleep in my arms. I finished sipping on my coffee and quietly climbed the stairs back up to your bedroom. As I walked in, I found you sitting up rubbing your eyes gently. You smiled at me as I closed the door, and with a tired and small voice said, “Where did you go?” I smiled and climbed back into bed, wrapping my arms around you and kissing your lips softly. “I was watching the snowfall.” © 2020 Haley Barnett |
