my love for ballet dancing and playing the cello

Awaken Me

Deep chords

Of a solemn cello

Chiseling swiftly up

And down the scales

Stir raw emotions

Asleep in me

 

Gliding my feet

Back and forth

Swiftly, like a

Hummingbird just

Learning to fly

 

My satin toes

Make rhythmic

Thrusts against

The hardwoods,

As my arms

Soar through

The air

 

Strings

Of the cello

Overtake

Me

 

They cast

Their spell on

My spirit

 

Rich tones

Stoke the glowing

Embers of my

Soul

The superlatives have all been spent; and rightly so!

Try reading the third stanza with "Hard wood" in place of "The hardwoods". What do you think? To my ear it adds a percussive abruptness that is relevant to the thud of points, while providing a counterpoint to the sibilant swish, of "satin toes" "soar[ing]".

The font reminds me of old English or Victorian...I'm not sure, but it is so appealing and rich! The poem is beautiful with a very light and soft edge to it. I like the style and presentation.
