Flying A Kite

Happy Kite Poem

Flying A Kite

Red and purple ribbons

Twist and rip through the air,

As we go racing across the sandy beaches,

Sailing our fighting green dragon

Higher and higher

Hours and hours spent

Fearlessly running back and forth

With our arms reaching up to the sky

Our necks stretching

As far they can,

Keeping a constant vigil

On our prized aero-dynamic

Accomplishment

Our chilled skin

Starts to chap and burn

Providing crimson evidence of

The harsh beatings from fierce the

Atlantic winds

Our voices crack

Growing hoarse from

Hours of unabashed,

Grandstand cheering and

Overblown yelling all day

Beaming smiles

Of pride and

Amazement flash

Across our

Cherub faces,

While warm

Waves of eternal

Brotherhood and

Love flood our

Carefree hearts

These are the

Days boys live for!

My Grandfather used to love to fly kites. We would spend hours flying our kites.
I wrote this thinking of him as a child flying kites with his friends on the Atlantic beaches. I still love to fly them along the beach shores.

This is a wonderful, happy piece. Makes me yearn for the moments with my grandfather before he passed.

Been forever since i flew a kite, but this took me back to the wild freedom in the wind. Beautiful colors dancing over those carefree days... Wonderful!

I finally made it to your work Marie. At least it proves that when I write a list of 'things to do' I get there ... eventually.
I have vague memories of building and flying kites as a lad, but clearer ones of showing my son how to do it. This brought back pleasant memories of both. I once showed him how to throw a boomerang and on my second throw it came back and hit me on the foot. I wasn't too keen on the pain but the accuracy was impressive.

Lets go fly a kite up where the air is bright, holding on to yhe strings of our kites.

Never was much of a kite flyer, just couldnt seem to get them off the ground, but I can understand the pleasure it gives to those dedicated ones :O)
