Summer Family ReunionA Poem by Marie HarrisonA family gatheringSummer Family Reunion I’m
Overwhelmed Surrounded By
all of you It’s
just too much! You’re
laughing Talking Farting Coughing Choking There’s
no room for me Where
do I fit in? The
intensity of emotions Is
too high People
aging People
dying Babies
cooing Chicken
frying I
don’t have the right job Where
are my children? My
husband never attends I
love you so much It’s
too hard to say goodbye Seeing
you makes me cry Why
do we all have to die? Let’s
all live forever I
have no control, Losing
myself Each
time one Of
you die, Oh,
how much I
secretly cry Tables
filled with Fresh
vegetables from the garden Grilled
meats and And
tasty fruit pies Softball
games in the sunny fields Hours
of swimming and playing in The
lake or hotel pool Dancing
all night at the disco Late
night pizza runs Watermelon
fighting Fun
with the seeds The
tears The
jokes The
memories The
card games The
long walks on the Windy
dirt roads With
cousins Oh
how I look forward To
these precious moments With
my family each year Oh
how I cherish These
days We
share together As
a family © 2011 Marie Harrison
