Living In A Man’s World

Drawing from

This robust cigarette

Bummed from a neighbor,

Searching for

Some sort of balance

For being a feminine woman

Active in the roughness

Of a man’s world,

Lately, as these tedious hours

Tick away

My jubiliant spirit has faded,

How I long to run wild and free

From the boundaries

Of this stale dwelling,

Shedding all of my uncertainties,

 Engaging wholeheartedly

In all of my life pursuits,

But this is a man’s world,

Filled with clouds of cigar smoke and

Outlandish bravado swaggers,

Outside of my unscathed petal rooms

Softness is rarely tolerated

Pink hues,

Flowers and sweet perfume

Have no place

Once I escape

These walls of lace

Being feminine is a felony

Out in this haggard world

Unless I’m flat on my back

And it’s bedtime

Working the same professions

And hours as a man,

Living practically

The same lifespan,

Yet his wages

By far outweigh my own

Why should I dress

Like a steely business man?

With all the

Rigid pen stripes,

               Baggy long pants,

                            Restricting power suits,

Hiding my soft round curves

And smooth silky skin

From the wandering hands and

Eyes of this hungry world?

With my clever intellect

And my feminine intuition,

Perhaps I’ll stay secure

In here for awhile

And watch the scattered men

Scramble by.

Welcome to my world, It's strange for s man to sometimes get a small glimpse of how a woman views this world, I for one love women and their femininity, their intuative intelect :0)

You took a simple image, and pulled out such an abstract concept and make something big out of it. Well done.

This was very well put together. Every woman should be allowed to be a woman even in the most man setting. While I was reading this I thought of the song "Its a man's world", but we've changed it to "Its a woman's world". Great job, and I loved the picture you used.

Well put together, makes quite a point or ten! Your words are poetically put but are as businesslike as those men's suits, you make firm statements with a gentle hand. And, I have to admit to understanding the theme more than some because I used to think this way .. but, have learned a little over time!

Good to see you back, and, thanks lots for your reviews. x

What a brilliant life you breathed into that image.. a story with depth and richness... And how we all stand searching for our place.. who we are in the midst of conventions and culture.

BRAVA...BRAVA....the best I have read in my span of readingtonight....I loved every inch of it not because I am a woman but because of the pop culture....WE are a known commodity, spending wise, but they will not allow us to be equal with pay.....this was so good .....
