Happy Valentine’s Day

It feels so good to let go of you.  Enjoying Valentine’s Day for the first time without even thinking of you the entire day.  How far I’ve come.

I thought my life was not worth living without your presence.

I thought my business was the best that I would ever have.

Now I’m ready to shed you both.  Ready to begin again.  This time, I’m going to enjoy myself and be really good to me.

I’m finally learning how to love myself and take care of me.

Happy Valentine’s Day to me!

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
This was the best Valentine's Day since my divorce. It's funny, I've had Valentine's Days since my divorce where I spent them with boyfriends or dates. But this year's was a special day in deed. I never thought of my ex throughout the entire day and I truly enjoyed the entire day. No amount of chocolates, tasty dinners or anything could out do the joy of a simple day without any unpleasant memories to shed grey on my day.

This is indeed a "declaration of independence" fresh and cool like an autumn breeze I particularly liked the line"I'm finally learning how to love myself--- and take care of me' reminds me of someone very close

Very nicely done. I like the renewing feel of this poem, like shedding old skin and coming into your new Self. You express freedom. Beautiful work.
