January's Gale

January's Gale

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A winter poem

January’s Gale

Stray winter leaves

On the trees

Whisper as they

Blow in the breeze

Don’t leave

Please, don’t leave!

As January’s

Gale groans

Her hollow moan

The witch’s lone

Black cat scatters

As I travel home

While the Sun’s

Descent begins

She nods at me, she grins

For she’ll lead my whipped body

To my road’s end

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
I actually was hiking Saturday at a park close to where I live. The wind was blowing and I noticed the brown stray leaves blowing in the wind. Made me think of this poem. Funny the places you find inspiration in, I was just walking around in a bunch of dead leaves with the wind blowing.

the begging of the final crusty leaves not leaving is a powerful initial hit. and as the cold sweeps in which is described beautifully, you manage to give it some unexpected emotion in the running.

So preeettyyyyy

This sounds like the start of a scary short story. You have done a wonderful job with your flow on this poem and the imagery is easy to picture in the minds.

Winter days at my age leave me in the house except for food and work. A excellent poem. When I was young. The cold weather didn't bother me. Too many years away in the warm states made me weak. A outstanding poem. Thank you.
