Wrapping Up At Christmas Time

Cold dampness from my pillow

Wakes me as I wipe a few stray

Tears from my eyelashes

Christmas memories of my last

Christmas with you filled my

Head as I slept last night

I smelled that fresh pine smell

From our Douglas fir tree standing in

Front of our picture window for

The world to admire

The crackle and pop

I could also hear coming

From the warm fire

Burning in our fireplace,

As you held me in your arms,

Snuggling on the

Plush leather couch

In our living room

As the last few Christmas songs

Played on the radio after our

House full of guests had left

To finally go home

We made time to share a few spare

Christmas moments together

Just the two of us while

Our two little dogs were

Fast asleep snoring

By the fire

We cozily lay on the couch

Watching the lights on our

Tree twinkle with the

Music, as your deep

Voice tenderly sang

Christmas carols

In my ear

I remembered closing my

Eyes and sighing as you sang

The last song

Elvis Presley’s song

"I'll Have A Blue

Christmas Without You"

Even then I seemed to be

holding onto every detail

Of admiring our tree and our

Empty home together on

The couch

Those moments

Alone were always

Special to me

I can still hear you

Singing to me now

When I get very still

And close my eyes

Little did I know that

Would be the very last

Time you would sing a

Christmas carol in my

Ear again

Without any defining

Moment be known to us,

Our long standing holiday

Tradition had finally come

To an end

I wish it wasn't true

I wish I wasn't having

Such a blue Christmas

Without you every year since

I'd give anything to have

You sing Christmas

Carols in my ear again

I'd even cook your

Dreaded Christmas

Goose again to relive

Those moments together

On the couch

Feeling loved while

Cradled in your arms

When will my streak of

Blue Christmas years

Finally come to an end?

I'm tired of being blue

Without you to spend

Christmas with

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
I wrote this last year. It comes from the heart. This year's much different, I'm happy to say that my Blue Christmases are over. I'm having a Merry Christmas this year. I've been very jovial and happy. It's a miracle how far I've come in just a year's time. But this was a special poem to me last year when I wrote it.

So sad, when someone we love leaves, memories of those special times together never leave us entirely do they? A sad and melancholy poem, could make a grown man cry, Happy It's over for you
