Signs Of Christmas Cheer

Silver tinsel dangles from a tree,

Tiny trinkets shine for all to see,

Popcorn strung with colorful

Red cranberries.

Twinkly lights blink bright

And rapidly.

Home fires burn slowly

In hot wood furnaces.

Mounds of snow build up,

Too cold for bare toes.

Sugary butter cookies melt

On hungry little tongues.

Spicy butter rum quenches

The thirst of my joyous crooning carolers.

Mistletoe hung up above

To spark the first kiss of love below.

Perfectly wrapped packages

Topped with big satin red bows.

Such a delightful trip down memory lane, your poem makes me think of Christmas from my youth. Times have changed but the spirit is still alive.

Very beautiful. I love Christmas, it can't get me down. I don't worry about how commercialized it is, I celebrate it my and my families and friends way. We enjoy Christmas every year together, commercialized or not.

It may be amusing to people from other land, that in India, we don't usually define a 'holiday season'. Because for us, at least 100 days are scrapped as holidays in a year. Well, we have festivals much often, and still feel separate joys for separate festivals. So, I can imagine how this 'holiday season' can feel for people who don't have as much holidays as us. That's the same reason why I haven't yet written a poem on some festival yet. Less something, more the feeling I guess. Kudos and wishing from a land far away, a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
