First Chill of AutumnA Poem by Marie HarrisonA frosty breath poem of fall.
First Chill of Autumn As night grows darker, Death’s black blanket Slowly starts to spread Bat wings flutter gleefully At the edge of night Stirring a gentle breeze That whispers softly To awaken the Sleeping dead Like the skillful prance Of a black widow spider Autumn is creeping Further and further along Soon trick o’ treat kids Will be singing their Candy begging songs As I gaze upon the stars That twinkle way above, My shoulders feel a chill Of Fall’s brazen display Of love that slowly Surrounds me I welcome the chilled air’s Refreshing entry into my Restless angelic heart The temperature drop Restores nature's balance Just like warm pumpkin pie Cooling on my hearth. © 2010 Marie Harrison |
