He's Our Joy

He's Our Joy

A poem about a shamed family member.

“He’s Our Joy”

He talks funny

But his disposition is sunny

Even though his tongue is too long

He’s not a loss

Just because his eyes are crossed

He’s never going to earn a degree

To his parents he’ll always cleave

He may have Downs

But he’s a joy to have around

The public might shame him

But they don’t see what makes us love him

He’s our precious joy

Our very own Mongoloid.

Beautiful take on this topic! I loved reading it. That's right, just because they were made differently, doesn't make them any less precious!

Here, here! A baby / child is to be loved no matter what.
Well written.

you have expressed this so bravely
every parent wishes to have a baby that evolves into a productive being but this write does not deny that the unconditional love and acceptance never fades even if the baby's mind will stay somewhat the same.

A nice little song...

The term 'Mongoloid' is never used her in the UK - and would be deemed almost as offensive as 'n****r' used of a black person.

Interesting too that here people with Downs are well accepted, I would say, and often work in supermarkets or other places where they can be given appropriate work...

Where is the shame? for i see no blame
a loving child, who will return love a thousand fold, it's not a shame but a rich bessing, to have and to hold. and a lovely expressive poem
