The Color Of A Man's Character

The Color Of A Man's Character

A poem of character.

The Color of a Man’s Character

We all bleed

And cleave to

Those we leave

We all smile when we are greeted

And cry when we are mistreated

Why do we choose to abuse others

For the color of their skin?

Why do we think that only

Our own color should win?

We’re all the same underneath

We all deserve peace

When we lay down to sleep

Love one another while you can

Show your son how to be gracious

The color of a man’s character

Is how he treats his fellow Man.

Your words are such a introspective, poignant challenge that I needed today. We must learn to look deeper and beyond anything that might hinder us from loving acceptance of others. Thank you for sharing these beautiful words with us.

Very good point! I love the way you wrote this. I wouldn't change a thing. And the truth that it brings is one of the most important ones.

A subliminal message carried across a simple recital. As Michael Jackson said, "I'm not gonna spend my life being a color" :) Always good to see poets writing for a cause.. :)

Such a lovely plea for humankind...I'm loving it!

Fantastic poem getting it right. For a lot of people, keeping everyone divided gives them all sorts of power and purpose, so they do everything they can to keep the hate going.

I've noticed that most children have a stronger sense of right and wrong that most adults could ever achieve. It isn't muddled for them, it isn't grey. It's either wrong or right. Interestingly enough, the idea of racism is ridiculous and absurd to most children when the idea is first introduced.
Thank you for capturing this. Splendid job.

It's the truth, stated simply. :) Great work!

This poem has a child like innocence to it.
Perhaps only the adults who's inner children
have survived this harsh world can guide us.

Great sentiments...Sweet Marie!
