An Owl's Maternal Call

An Owl's Maternal Call

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A nature poem.

"

An Owl’s Maternal Call

As the white fog

Lifts this heavy morning,

Above the arctic soaking terrain

Orbs of wonder dot the bottom

As the results of the life that thrives

Down below where it is cold.

I just am in awe of

Nature’s beautiful

Tapestry that lives

Below the ice.

Only do I wish

She wouldn’t make

My rickety old bones creek.

In the distance

A hawk’s screech

Is heard,

Her child as well hears

Her maternal call.

No restaurant

On nature’s block,

We all have to

Hunt for our food.

Whoa! To the weak

And meek on surviving

In the wilderness.

I draw dry breaths

Of frigid air as

Mother Nature’s hand

Takes mine and leads me

Through the pathway

Of survival.

I used to have an owl that lived near my house.
This poem reminds me of the song it would sing
every day and dusk and dawn. The imagery was
stunning.

There is nothing or near nothing that takes the place of Nature showing the way to be, to feel, to think .. it guides with the wisdom of the owl, displaying a raw though tender heart.

Your words are stunningly lovely .. 'Above the arctic soaking terrain ~ Orbs of wonder dot the bottom ~ As the results of the life that thrives ~ Down below where it is cold.' .. what can't be seen is life in the waiting ..

Such lovely imagery - Mother Earth and all her beings, survival.

It made me feel like I was in the mountains when I read this - raw nature.

Excellent!

A beautiful flow of image and life breathing words. I really like the last stanza. It holds a valuble truth. Mother Natures has all the lessons we need to survive. We must only let go of our arrogance and let her take our hand.

loved this!
