Starting Over Takes Time

Starting Over Takes Time

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

A poem about new beginnings.

"

Starting Over Takes Time

My tragedy came to a head

Around the time

Of gusty gales of Hurricane Katrina.

Now five years have

Passed since those

Tear soaked savage days when

I lost my home too,

As well as my loved

Ones and friends.

Yes all in one evening,

Whirlwinds of change

Destroyed my way of life.

But all is not over yet,

Like the victims

Of Hurricane Katrina

I will survive and learn to make

A new way of life for myself.

Author's Note

Marie Harrison
The brunt of the violent demise of my relationship took place around the same time as the violent storm of Hurricane Katrina. I always seem to gage my progress in strarting over and healing with the coverage of the survivers of that savage storm. Since there has been so much coverage of the fifth anniversary and the progress of their survival, I can't help but continuing to gage my own. Starting over is harder than it looks. Anyway that was my inspiration for this poem.

After a certain time, something must change.. Might be good or bad, but change is what we're worth living for. I've written many 'realisational' poems of a different kind, so I know exactly how it feels.. It's always a good habit to write poetry when being over-emotional. It really doesn't matter how well or meaningful the poem has come out, but the harmony will most certainly be restored in its place.. :) Keep writing.

I was born in New Orleans and it breaks my heart when I see how Katrina ravaged the city. But there is a rebirth and a growth. My thoughts are with you.

It has been five years for me as well. Only it was two days before Valentine's day that mine made his departure. Amazing how much changes in such a short period of time and yet, at the same time, some things never do.

Well said.

Starting over, though difficult, opens
new doors, new life that would never
have existed without this change.
Wake up each day and thrill to the
possibilities for a life that could not
have existed before starting over.

These are just words, platitudes, if you
will, but they are sound and at least an
echo of this bright new life.
