My Roman HolidayA Poem by Marie HarrisonA travel poem.
MY ROMAN HOLIDAY
Found my strength and confidence Along the cobblestone streets of Rome, Sipping an espresso in St. Mark's Square, And crossing the many bridges of Florence. Hand in hand with you every day, Making my way with whatever language I knew how to use that day. It was so much fun for us to play And wander around all day. Found that if I could make my way in a distant land, Then I could do so anywhere I roam, No matter if I was alone or not, I would make my way. My desire for deeper human connections I found along the way those days in Italy with you. Cold duomos, marble statues, and broken Roman columns Weren’t warm enough to lighten my heart at night. I needed human companionship too. I discovered who I was, that spring In Rome with you, coming home I would Never be the same anymore. I discovered my strength and confidence Those days, I discovered my need to Find my own way, far away from you.
