I’d Rather Remember Christmas In July

Because we cannot rely that

you’ll be alive beyond July,

this year let’s have Christmas

in Hawaii and in the month of July.

What a high that will be to scuba

with Santa and ride waves

that seem  a mile wide.

Let’s kiss under the mistletoe,

Not in the snow drinking a cup of Joe,

But on the Hawaiian pier watching the undertow

Wearing our bikinis, swim trunks and flip flops,

Instead of our worn out matching house robes.

This year instead of presents,

Let’s give each other flowered leighs,

And besides watching for Santa’s sleigh,

We’ll scout for him hanging ten on a huge wave.

Usually a yuletide carol is sweet in December,

But won’t it be bitter sweet

when we look back and remember

Don Ho strumming his Hawaiian

Christmas songs under a beach cabana

Where everyone’s legs are long, tan and limber?

It’s spending Christmas with you

in Hawaii in July that I would rather remember

When you’re gone in December.

The contrast between hot and cold, tradition and not is great and reminds us we don't need to do the norm, life is for taking and enjoying.........great imagary, and a real uplifting emotion of happiness and opportunity!

The rhymes are superb here. I love the inner rhyme so much. Hawaii goes so well with July in the first stanza. This is very well written and I can tell you put some time into it...or you're just good like that :)

This was another nice poem. It is a page of celebration.
You remind us all to not take time for granted.

Loved it.

Marie, This is wonderful! Christmas in Hawaii where it's nice and toast, that would be fun!

Clever stuff - the heat is always more attractive than the cold... I enjoyed the pictures and the thought :-)

I love this--a great write-a a happy mood
wrapped like a present within a somber tone...
I Love It...:-)
