Dixie Feet

Dixie Feet

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

"A beach poem about the oil spill

"

Dixie Feet

My padded Dixie Feet

Have sifted through the sugar

Sands of the sweet

Southern beaches

With my webbed toes

Since I’ve

Known anything,

Way before

I became a

Georgia Peach.

Now black crude oil

Has taken a toll

On her crystal clear

Aqua blue waters,

It’s soiling her coastline.

My head hangs low when I

See her soil covered

With dead pelicans, cranes

And sea gulls covered

With ugly black tar from oil.

To watch the poor

Shelled crabs

Transverse

The Black oil sludge,

Causes my blood to boil!

How dare you ruin

My precious commodity,

My southern playground,

My haven,

My sanctuary

From the toil of the World!

All to get your

Precious black crude oil,

I won’t forget your name

British Petroleum.
