Italian Lady

Italian Lady

A Poem by Marie Harrison

A historical and lusty poem about ice cream

"

ITALIAN LADY

She floated here decades ago,

from her ancient Italian city.

Her secrets were tucked safely

away in a sacred family Bible.

Since, she departed from the

streets of Naples,

hardly anyone has missed her.

In fact there are few signs

that she ever resided there at all.

After arriving on our shores adorned with

red, white and blue stripes ages ago,

she has changed her environment profoundly.

On the streets of Naples,

she was molded with the best curves

that the men of Naples

could possibly give her.

Lady fingers from time to time

would grace her curves too.

The protective men of Naples

would never even consider

scooping her out to serve

to other drooling men.

No, never,

they prefer to serve her sliced,

not scooped.

They like to watch

her seductively show her bold stripes.

Yes, she's beautiful in stripes,

they don't make her look

fat at all.

Her vertical stripes typically have three

distinctive colors: green, pink

and brown.

She is not Ambrosia, food for the Gods.

If the God's would have

had access to refrigeration,

then her name might have

been Ambrosia.

She has a tantalizing taste

that keeps men

coming back for more.

Her taste is the combination

of three delectable tastes.

She's made of the finest

ingredients,

which are all common

staples in the city of

Naples.

Since setting foot on the broken,

cobblestone path of America

her nature has been transformed

in many different ways.

Most handsome male suitors,

prefer for her to stick to her

traditional roots to delight

their lover's tongue with a

sensual and cool dessert.

With his first spoonful

of the creamy green stripe

delivered personally from his own hand,

his lover's tongue will

experience the nutty,

sweet taste of pistachio.

This heavenly treat will slowly melt

in her mouth.

The second spoon he will

deliver to her parted lips,

will be filled with a pink, fruit filled

frozen dessert.

When it reaches her tongue the

succulent taste of red juicy

cherries will burst into her mouth..

Instantly, making her lick her

lips and yearn for more.  Next he will

deliver to her sultry lips a

delightful concoction

of rich, stimulating chocolate and the nutty

sweet flavor of hazelnut.

Together they perform a

provocative, tango in her mouth.

What a smart man her suitor is,

now his lover's lips are well

primed for the passionate,

luxurious kisses that he will

give her at the close of their

dreamy evening of romance.

I'm sure if he could thank

this striped Italian beauty

from the streets of ancient

Naples, if he could.

Her ancient name is

Spumone.

In fine Italian restaurants and boardwalks,

across America she is know

now as Spumoni.

Years ago, she gave birth to another

luscious frozen treat

that is commonly found

in kitchen freezers

all over America.

Her offspring is often

known as Neapolitan Ice Cream.

He, bares her same three stripes

proudly, but the taste of his

stripes are of a different nature.

Commonly, they taste of chocolate,

vanilla and strawberry.

Next time you find the opportunity,

take a taste of the fair lady

who came from the streets of Naples,

Spumone.

Fantastic! I like how you took one thing (Spumone) and made it into a long poem. Simply by adding a metaphor of a man and a woman, great descriptions and passion, you created an awesome write!

Quite the passionate story about desert. I love how you made this poem a historic journey without making it a cut and dry thing. This is a perfect poem to suggest to anyone who's a foodie (which I happen to be.) I now have a desire to give this alluring treat a try. You have made Spumone sexy.
