red clay memories

red clay memories

A Poem by Marie Harrison
"

a poem describing the texture of my memories

"
red clay memories

in the rugged cracked red clay
earth are my memories
dirt that is so dry
it blows like dust in the wind
when you ball it in your hand
and blow on it

my tears flow
glossing over them

the water-mixed memories
sink to the bottom
forming deep tepid pools of resource
for my hungry soul when I'm
parched for more

I really liked this poem. Amazingly vivid imagery that you can feel and see. Wonderful words and metaphors. Good flow and rhythm. I love the imagery with the dirt blowing, really beautiful. It has maybe a slight spark of decadence with the dirt imagery, but that's about it, only a slight possible glimpse that you're not even sure you saw. Thanks for entering it in my contest anyway though. Wonderful poem, great job.

Vivid images of sadness and disappointment.

A little deep our/your memories lie within the dusty cracks of fading thoughts, mixed with tears of both sorrow and joy, what a poem you write with mind and pen.

Well written, perfect

Interesting! Quite an imaginative way to both describe and think about human memories, and their role in our lives. Like clay, memories can be moulded or shaped by the passage of time. Also, imprints can be left in strips of clay. Perhaps, a metaphor for the fact that memories leave imprints in our minds? Thankyou Marie!

Our roots can never be cut off and our past helps define our character... I see a lot of sentiment in this poem.
