holding my hand. When was I ever so soft, in knowing you. Behind every smile I fear I will lose my hand before man. And playing in debt we beckon greatness by giving it all away.

Of mice and men. And when you know you’ll be great by saying you know absolutely nothing at all.
There's is a lot going around us. The world in general is becoming a home of ignorant species who stand at the top of the world shouting and bragging. Why can't we just learn to keep quiet, observe, asks questions and do things in the background. I think that's how greatness come to being.
This life is just too complicated, solving a mystery leads to another mystery and to another until our existence slowly lost in the past.

Well, that's how Socrates played it. He said he knew nothing and asked questions. Apparently, though, he frightened some, and that's how he ended up with that cup of hemlock.
Many people who know nothing at all are braggarts, who think they know everything. This is an annoying issue to deal with. I think that's the point here. I noted your allusion to "of mice and men"...Who is the greatest?
Best, B
