Drowning in Ignorance

Lost in empty politics-

Floating above moral bliss-

Falling pass common sense-

Drowning in ignorance

 

She only sees in Black and White

Missing the high defined truth drifting into view

 

America the beautiful

America be brave,

America is a contradiction of her moral ways

 

She believes in hierarchy

Strives for diversity

Still looking for emancipation in her broken proclamations

 

Who would have ever guessed

America would do her best

To insure her bigot history

would pave her lost future.

 

When Hitler killed the Jews it was genocide.

When Columbus killed the Tainos it was conquest.

When Egypt enslaved Moses it was religious persecution.

Yet, when America didn’t want to enslave Toby there was civil unrest.

 

America cries for the lost Indian boys

Donates toys to the little Negro girls

And drops bombs on the Iranian treasures over seas

 

When will America be free from her bruising insecurities?

 

Why is she afraid of her truth?

Painted red, red, red, black and blue

Whiter than sour cream

Racism’s getting mean

As it seeks revenge

 

Is that why America’s lost in her stereotypes

With her hips as wide as the Atlantic

Her hair as long as the Mississippi

Her eyes are brighter than the clear sky

 

Her beauty is my pain

For the Red Skinned, Pig Headed, Primal Beast is lost in her first days

 

Living for words as old as time

A song older than dance

A beat that’s out played

Humming over and over again

 

We the people

In your God we trust

When you sailed the seven seas

To be religiously freed from the ones that battered and beat you

Can’t you see we’re battered too?

Bleeding red, red, red, black and blue

Living for a change, no one can see

Searching in vain for someone to make it right

Never getting through to you
