Thinning Out

Thinning Out

A Story by cherrie-currie

It was a gory open wound. What started out as a small bruise manifested into an area of open flesh, as though the muscles have been burnt by acid, leaving his insides for all to see. It was beyond superficial and my four years of pharmacy school still left me unable to provide a curative suggestion. How did it get so bad so quick?

It was just now, moments before dinnertime, when I was showing him a magic trick but he did the impressing with his smooth moves at shuffling cards. I remember looking at his floppy hair, just wanting to kiss him as I leant into him in his crisp white shirt with navy details. Sweat soaked and high in the moment as we scampered into my dark room when we heard the footsteps nearing.

But now here we are, blanketed in the shadows and you are leaving on airplane tomorrow ("You don't know what time? Well done!") but at least I am still in your good graces, which is more I can say about the reality right now.
