in my heart...

When I close my  eyes, 

I see you

You feel close to me, 

and yet you are so far

A shiver goes down my spine

whenever I think of you smile

It's that touch of your hand 

it feels, oh, so soft

makes me think of clouds of cotton,

of sweet, joyful memories you and I have.

It pains me to think that you are not aware

it pains me to think that you, probably, will forget

about me, about all those little scrapes of memories 

I will never cease to cherish. 

I save them in a little box, in my heart

and although they weigh my heart down,

they make my heart ache

I'd rather have it pained, shattered to pieces

than to have never felt what you made me feel.

You do not know, you do not feel 

what I felt, but I still fantasize 

about a potential history between us,

a thought to keep me warm at night

to make me realize what we did not have. 

And that.... kills me.

Many will relate to this, having been there... some of us are there now... some of us may find ourselves there...

the opening lines are simple yet effective in drawing the reader in and what follows makes the heart sink a little with each line... better it is to have loved and loss than to never have loved at all... you say it very well..

oh i went down this road so many times as a teenager, the fantasies that the longed for girlfriend can produce i think i had them all largely because i was a spectacularly shy and unsuccessful potential boyfriend also i was more extreme in my Asperger's syndrome which i can tell you don't help in any relationships, so your poem really hits home for me and despite my youthful failures somehow the reminiscence this poem gives me somehow in some way makes me happy, thank you for that :)
