Here I Stand

Here I Stand

A Poem by Chelsea Elizabeth

Here I stand
Sensing as my heart grows cold
Losing the old feeling of feeling
Blocking myself from any possibility
Of feeling insecurity in your presence
Bracing myself against the coaxing of your voice
Wondering where lies my choice
Of where to go and what to do

Here I stand
Feeling the sting
That every stone brings when you throw it at me
Searing shut every possibly avenue
That pain could use to get through to the inner parts of me
Refusing to admit
That I want to quit
Feeling after the sting from your words has long since faded away

Here I stand
Flaying open a wound supposedly healed
Long ago sealed by bitterness and inescapable pain
Allowing, now, the healing salve of forgiveness to enter
Ignoring the small splinter of resentment that remains
Removing any indication of
Anything but love
So that I can be free to live again

Freedom from hurt, freedom from pain.
So many different kinds of slavery we don't even realize when we're in it.

You wrote emotions into words well here.
I liked the obvious hopeful conclusion. I liked the flow of the last stanza best.

great thoughts here - i'm sure so many can relate. i know that i do :( :)

i like the flow of this, and the way you set up the poem; the slight repitition of form. there's much strength in your words.

"Flaying open a wound supposedly healed

these words i really relate to... and you describe them perfectly.... it's half pretending, yet half being strong and collecting the pieces of youreslf and traveling on..

wonderful
