The Captain and The Sea

The Captain and The Sea

A Poem by E.C.F. Doyle
"

Words.

"

I lay upon the dark night screaming,
Harrowed dreaming,
Searching for some wisdom wise,

And looking to the morning asking;
What is lasting
Viewed through these haggard eyes?

There is fear to love,
And love to fear.
Great emptiness,
Empty greatness.
_____________

Drift upon that ocean sailing,
Winds ‘a wailing,
Searching for some land to see.

Lay him down, the captain, dying,
Crewmen crying,
Wonder what it was to be.

There is fashion to life
And life to fashion.
Sensible futility,
Futile sensibility.
______________

Rap upon that door and wonder,
Endless ponder,
“Will this fellow answer me?”

The ferryman he answers slowly,
Waiting coldly.
“I wonder does he wait for me?”

this is amazing! the rhyming is perfect and I felt it's talking about someone who's lost and feels sad and empty looking for something to put it them on track again..Great work

Terrific write. I enjoyed your use of older diction, or a least it felt that way. Your rhyming scheme was clever as well. All in all, this poem is somewhat flawless.

I love the imagery... Am I right in thinking the ferryman is the ferryman for crossing the river Styx (into death)? Amazing work!! I enjoyed reading this!! (:

A very creative take on what happens during any profound voyage along the treacherous waters of unpredictable circumstances life has instore for everyone from time to time. Even the Captain of any sized ship. Great job. :)
