Before the Red SeaA Poem by cheezkaMonday “Isn’t that your second burger?” “Yeah”, I say, taking another bite “I also had a milkshake and some fries. So what if today’s lunch isn’t light?” I walk out of the diner My pants feeling a little tighter And I rub my happy tummy Thinking of all the yummy Food I ate And how I wanted a bit more Maybe something salty With a little sweetness at its core? Tuesday I walk around the house And plop myself on the couch Turn on the television And appears on the screen is this grouch It was a car ad of some sort There was a man and kids on the screen I don’t really remember much Except that the man turned out to be really mean For some reason, he was shouting at the kids Suddenly, I feel a tear fall down my cheek My chest starts feeling heavy As my knees grow weak Wednesday I look in the mirror And everything’s out of place My hair looks like a bird’s nest Plus I have a new zit on my face I huff and sigh and look around For something I could wear My PJ’s feel so comfy I wonder if anyone would care If I didn’t change out of them today Cause everything else makes me feel fat And then I think, hey it’s my life! And that’s what settled that.
Thursday I ready myself for bed And curl up under the sheet I snuggle with my pillow Locking my blanket under my feet As I lay there, waiting for sleep to come by I realized how tired I felt And I had no idea why I stared up at the ceiling Not being able to relax It seemed so hard to fall asleep When my brain was on at max
Friday I wake up with a nagging feeling Like something happened in the night I look around my bed and see That my hunch was right I woke up on the flag Of the Land of the Rising Sun My once white cotton sheets Are now officially done I start to groan and clean my bed As I thought of what the week would bring More mood swings and cravings, I thought But hey, it’s just a girl thing. © 2014 cheezka |
