The Game of Love

The Game of Love

A Poem by chaireinferrascalayca

I can't play this game alone.
'Twas made for tandems
Serve me a ball
And I'll give you my best shot.

In my court, I feel safe
I hit back in the best way possible,
  hoping you'd do the same
But I don't think I own your emotions.

I can't propel you to make
the move I want you to
I can only hope for
  the best outcome.

It's clear to me now
that though we play the same game
I am a player of my own.
I cannot depend on you.

I can only hope
You give back the kind of effort
I put into the sport

I promise to play it clean
But when it comes to you,
  I can only hope...
