The MockingbirdA Poem by chaireinferrascalaycaThe mockingbird is a songbird of the Southern US noted for its ability to mimic the calls of other birds. I am a mockingbird set free.I wrote because I have thoughts left unspoken I have desires that beckon me to speak. I have, deep within me... Emotions that need subtle outpouring, Harsh uprisings I would rather put to words. I write because I am simply me... Perhaps a weakling at heart Too hesitant to say "no" Most afraid of disapproval Yet so desirous of freedom and bliss. I have been a wanderer For eon's time Mayhap I pass along A place I can honestly call home. I long to paint a smile on my lips One that I deserve, Without fear of deprecation. I crave to laugh a hard laugh Because I understand what's going on, And not without knowing I am but the center of such mockery. To express my thoughts and feelings Just the way they ought to be... I declare starting this day on...
Because I don't want to fake a smile I don't want to change my thoughts. I just long to be me... My imperfections make me who I am. My bloodline constitutes the person you now see. What you find in me perhaps things you disapprove qualities you wish were similar to yours All these make me ALIVE... And starting this day on... I declare, I am free.
